LIMITED EDITION TRADING CARDS

Ukkonen has issued official collectable trading cards since 1988. Fans of Ukkonen, particularly our youngest fans, have long enjoyed collecting the cards of their favorite players. Our trading cards highlight the uniqueness of each player, their fighting spirit, and their magnificent skills on and beyond the ice.

To celebrate thirty years of trading card history, Ukkonen issued a limited edition trading card set that highlights the special contributions of both our players and all the people who help the team reach its goals. It takes a committed community of workers, each experts in their sector, to turn luck into long-standing success. Our Thirtieth Anniversary Trading Cards series honors the often invisible “behind the scenes” work of volunteers, therapists, managers, coaches, equipment managers, administrators, and fans. The value of their everyday work is immeasurable.

SKILL PINS AND SPIRIT PATCHES

Ukkonen’s team of expert trainers spend hours each day with the players in the gym and on the ice to increase their overall endurance and strength. In addition, coaches drill the players on the stick skills and skating techniques, including crossover skating and edgework, specific to each players’ needs. But a good hockey player must also be mentally strong and adaptive. Our team have routinely produced high achieving hockey players that are both individually competitive and team players par excellence.

The most elusive skill of all, many would argue, is hockey sense, that ability to read the game, to anticipate where the puck is at all times and to make good decisions without hesitation in the course of play. Our coaches have excelled at cultivating a high degree of hockey sense among generations of Ukkonen players.

Although players’s achievements in these areas are recognized through the awarding of custom-made pins and patches in an intimate postseason ceremony, it is truly the whole crew that pushes our players to new heights.
